It didn't take long for Gabriel to fit right in and become a beloved member of the Sanctuary family, he is a cheeky monkey with the most adorable face and a real sweetheart.
Our Angel Gabriel was about as abused as a dog can get when he was found in Millfield, Sunderland in February last year. He was literally an emaciated bag of bones with cigarette burns on his face, sores on his body and scabs on his back; another traumatised no name dog that had suffered unbelievable cruelty at the hands of this 'animal loving society'. We can't even imagine what he went through and it does not help Gabriel to dwell there. He was so emaciated that it was uncertain he would survive but survive he did and with careful nursing, his physical health was restored but sadly neurologically, he never quite recovered and is now left with some movement and processing disorders which mean he is prone to falling and can't safely be re-homed into a domestic environment. He spent 10 months in council kennels hoping, wishing and waiting for someone special who had the skills to deal with his issues to take him. Nobody came but thanks to Facebook networking and Rescue Aid For Animals he found us and although he may have trouble staying on all four paws he certainly landed on them because here with us he has a chance at rehabilitation and a home forever that is not far short of heaven for dogs like Gabriel. Here with us he has a safe place to lay his head and dream, soft bedding under his wobbly body, food, friends and buckets full of love....here he can shake out his wings, leave his awful past behind and start his life over again.
And start it he has *smiles* he has his own stand alone kennel now overlooking the field at the back of the SOS area giving him a beautiful and peaceful view out over the countryside. He loves bounding about in the play area and spending time with the volunteers, playing chase and just being a dog with no pressures. He has settled in really well and always has a smiley face when he greets you in the morning. He loves his chews and bones and hides them in his bed for later and adores his daily walks over the fields, mooching about on a long line. He did have a fear of brooms but with a little perseverance and a few tricks he is now quite happy with us cleaning his kennel as it's a game now and the broom gets him a yummy treat when it's in there. He enjoys watching the daily goings on and hustle and bustle but also relishes the peace in his views and some quiet time.
Being a permanent boy, he is after monthly sponsors for his treats and food shopping so if any one would like to sponsor him you can do so here; Sponsor Me any amount is most appreciated or you can buy him some treats or food direct from the Sanctuaries Wishlist if you prefer. Thank you x
