BSAS would like to say a huge, massive, humongous thank you to the admins and all the members of 'Team Keisha' who have donated the cost of one SOS Haven to the sanctuary in honour of Keisha and in recognition of the work that Joy does here. Our rebuild is key to our future and expanding our SOS haven area to be able to take in more dogs and save lives. This one haven, Keisha's Haven will save many dogs in the years to come, providing a last chance space to those, like her who had nowhere else to go.
"The admin of Keisha's Fund have a very special announcement to make, to celebrate Keisha's move to a foster home this week. Many of you will know Keisha's story but for those who don't here is a brief recap.
She was starved, beaten and dumped on Rebecca Moody's doorstep just hours away from being put to sleep. Bianca Webster was able to help with a foster home until Keisha found her forever home, or so we thought. She needed to be moved a couple of times (including once when she was stolen), and we realised Keisha would need some professional help if she was to be successfully rehomed.
For a while Keisha was looked after in boarding kennels where she was supported by Beverley Little and then Karen and team at Cottage Kennels. Just when we were beginning to give up hope for Keisha, a wonderful woman called Joy Keys stepped up and offered Keisha a rehab placement in her rescue haven at The Birkett Smith Foundation. Donna Eddington from Marleys Rescue provided RBU and so Keisha was moved to Joys sanctuary where she has thrived and been prepared for the move to her own sofa this week
Of course all of this has cost money and a few people have worked tirelessly to fundraise for Keisha, most notably Lucy Bastafield. Keisha's group has almost 4,000 members but a core of about 50 people have consistently donated items, bid on the auctions and bought raffle tickets to raise almost £5,000 for Keisha's care and rehabilitation, and despite knowing that Keisha was funded and safe these wonderful people have continued to raise money to such an extent that we have been able to support other dogs needing Joys care such as Maggie and Simba.
The admin team have been very careful with Keisha's money and due to the generosity of Keisha's supporters we have managed to raise and save a sum of £850 to be donated to Joys Sanctuary to build a new kennel, that will be named in Keisha's honour. This means that there will be a lasting legacy from Keisha and her supporters, with space for Joy to continue the excellent work she does and help many more dogs for years to come.
The admin team would like to say a huge thank you to every single one of you who has made this possible. Thank you xxx"
