Daisy's Progress

Our special boy Daisy has been on a roller coaster since arriving at the sanctuary...

Daisy

Daisy is a 7 year old staffy cross, his history is sketchy but until a couple of months ago he lived in a 6ftx4ft metal cage on a barren industrial estate surrounded by concrete and metal for most of his life. He was lucky if he got out of the cage for five minutes every other day....some days he didn't get out at all and it's unsure whether anyone even visited him. He is fearful, highly under socialised, has the potential to react and is not keen on women at all. Understandably he could never be domesticated so he came to live with us at the Sanctuary. Within a few weeks Joy was able to stroke him from outside his run and amazingly shortly after they had their first walk together which he loved and things were going really well. Unfortunately Daisy then got influenza and retreated to what he knows best, his ingrained behaviours and Joy had to take a large step backwards and was unable to go in with him safely which was really disheartening and even Joy's extensive bag of knowledgeable tricks could not bring him out of his funk and to be honest we despaired a bit and began to wonder if we could ever get that grass between his toes again. He so wants to be a different dog, you can see it in his gorgeous amber eyes but has so many deep rooted issues and is still so affected by his old world that even the slightest thing can set him back. But a few weeks later, after 3 lots of antibiotics and hours and hours of Joy sitting quietly and patiently outside his run, we have an even cuddlier Daisy back again! He is having a new house built which has been designed so he can't guard ( a behaviour we are trying to limit ) and we are convinced he and Joy will be back out on walks in no time. Good lad Daisy...you can do it and well done Joy! x

Here he is on Monday enjoying Joy's touch again
