It's been a busy week as always at the sanctuary. March sure hit us with a bang! We have battled the elements yet again and took a right old beating to the tune of £3,000's worth of damage. So yesterday Joy worked her way through all the kennels and pack houses having a good old tidy up whilst the dogs were out to play. Today Dave is helping to move the piggies into their new winter housing he built the other week, clearing up again after the storm this week and generally catching up with the maintenance Jobs which as you can imagine are many and varied with so many animals!
Yesterday was 'Sausage Saturday' for the SOS dogs and Sheralyn visited again with a good supply of snarlers...she came to spend some quality time with them for more meet and greets. It is key for the more human wary/nervous dogs to have positive time spent with other people to build their trust and confidence....they seem to love Sheralyn and the fact that she comes loaded down with sausages and chicken nuggets has absolutely nothing to do with it *coughs*. We would like to take this opportunity to just say what an amazing lady Sheralyn Stuckey is as not only does she run all of our auctions, extra raffles and fund raising, she also runs about picking up donated doggie items for us, cooks for the woofs and spends treat time with them plus she volunteers for the transport network getting dogs to safety...an earth angel for the woofas THANK YOU for being you Sheralyn x
Noel is up for foster with Last Chance Hotel and yesterday a home check was done on a potential foster so everything crossed and watch this space!
Keisha has amazing news, she is off to foster shortly under Marleys Rescue so watch this space!
Mia is now available for foster under Last Chance Hotel please contact them for any information or to apply.
All the dogs it has to be said loved the sausages and Sheralyn spent some time in with many of them having slowly worked towards her spending time in their runs.
Simba's house has been manufactured and is being delivered in a few days and will be installed next weekend so its Simba ahoy! We seriously can't wait to welcome him into the peace of the sanctuary. He has had such an amazingly positive week in kennels, he spent time with his aunties Cathy Holding and Mandy Ellis who left him a ton of treats until he can come to us. He is relaxing and generally being spoiled and although it's early days and we are yet to meet him, we have high hopes for this lad who it would seem, has been through so much.
Beau was due at the vets last week for his snip shhhh! However, we took the decision to delay this as we felt it would be detrimental to his progress and too stressful to take him out of an environment he now trusts so we are leaving it for a few weeks and he's quite happy that he gets to keep his 'bits'. Beau's history is sketchy, his body is covered in scars and he has a badly docked tail (home done we would imagine). We suspect he has been used as a bait dog given the extent of his scars and we think he's had quite a few knocks to the head. He came from cruelty and it seems he has been passed around a lot so we are sure you will understand that we want him to feel 100% safe here and taking him out for a simple vet visit has to be thought about very carefully....we never want Beau to feel that he is being dumped again. That beautiful face will only smile from now on.

We are still actively fundraising for the Big Build and the Pocket Money Gang and as always all and any donations are most gratefully recieved...we could not save them without you, it's that simple. Hit the links for information and to donate or bash the donate button that our mad blogger puts on the end of every blog she does. We have a home made Blanket Auction under way in our Fundraising Group and there is a chance to Save and Win too on our Scratch-card for our permanent residents. In case you missed it, we hit the news again with a lovely two page spread in Dogs Monthly so make sure to buy that and check us out. We have a couple of thank you's...Simba has a lovely fleecy coat arriving soon from Lorraine Walshe and we received a muzzle and doggie treats from Jennie Hill; thank you both very much indeed x We always need treats and things for the animals and we have a LIST here on the website and an Amazon Wishlist too...again anything you could spare means the world to our animals.
So we think that's about it? The last word this week goes to Jan Barrand with a lovely testimonial and comment on our Facebook Group:
"Well done once again, Joy and team - a lifeline thrown to Simba at the 11th hour will no doubt be the making of him. Good luck dear Simba, your fortunes are just beginning to change. Here comes the impossible dream .. being made possible for you. xx" Donate
