Hard calls, winter digs, hello's, goodbye's, visitors, a possible jackpot and of course some doe eyed pleading...
We've taken the tough decision to close our doors until further notice as we have so many permanent sanctuary dogs coming in and we are busy preparing/building thier spaces and getting ready for the long winter. We don't have the funds for any more spaces currently and need to concentrate on caring for the 90 dogs we have as well as the multitude of other animals. We have SOS Rehab dogs coming and going regularly and the demand for those spaces from desperate rescues who have nowhere else to turn is ever increasing and keeping us extremely busy.
We have now completed the horses new winter quarters! Does'nt it look fabulous *big smiles* We have 4 horses and two very naughty Shetland Ponies including Axle (pictured) who all seem to approve of their new posh digs. HUGE thanks go to our B.S.A.S Fundraising Group for raising the funds for us so that we could do this and many other small projects over the last six months. You are all amazing x
Welcoming a new lad onto the SOS yard meet the absolutely scrumptious Jacko. Jacko is here for some rehab and he's going to need quite a bit of work, he is human reactive which is purely fear based. He arrived yesterday and is settling in well.
We said a sad goodbye to one of our sweethearts, Lola yesterday. She came to us under Monica Kaiser with a few serious problems but she did really well in rehab and with the help of the other dogs in the Sanctuary her reactivity was reduced and with dilligent routines and work, her guarding issues sorted. In short she came into herself, got happy in her own skin and began to smile. Yesterday, after a grooming session with Sheralyn we sent her off with a suitcase full of confidence and new skills and we could not be more proud of how far she has come. Good luck in your new foster home, Lola x
"Lola and I are immensely grateful for the chance you gave her Joy. Your help and work with Lola means so much to us as it will have a huge influence on her further path to a happy life and we will never ever forget your support xx" Monica Kaiser.
Sheralyn came up to see us yesterday, she comes regularly to provide 'other people' experiences to the rehab dogs and to spend time with as many of the Sanctuary dogs as she can. The time she spends with us is so much appreciated and she brings sausages and chicken treats which makes her an absolute favourite with the woofa's!
We have such a mix of dogs with various issues at the sanctuary who have lifelong places with us in the safety of our grounds and we adore every single one of them but it can be hard to give each of them the attention they deserve every day. What they need is some special people with time to spare to come and sit and spend quality time with them or just play and take them for walks (we have miles of beautiful countryside around us) for an hour or so or longer each week ideally. If you have the time, patience and love to give to be a buffer to the world for these guys until they learn to trust humans again then The Sanctuary is the place for you and a little bit of your time could make such a huge difference in the lives of these very special souls who deserve all the love they can get. Please get in touch for more info or fill out the form on the website.
Back by popular demand is our third iPhone fundraiser. Join in and you could be £600 richer by Saturday 15th of October....yes really! It's one you don't want to miss! You can find all the details on the link, please support us and help us to bump up our funds for winter:
We are still appealing for bedding and warm woollies etc. We need towels, blankets and throws (no sheets thank you) and around 200 duvets! We cut the duvets so any size is good. We also need 20 or so dog coats for large to medium dogs. If you want to drop off, we are near Bridport in Dorset and would really, really appreciate any donations to help us keep the woofa's warm this winter! Maybe you could also collect from friends and family or co-workers for us? Everyone has bedding and towels that they don't use clogging up the airing cupboard. Or alternatively you can check out our Amazon Wishlist where we have listed some coats and blankets
We also need food for our tummies. With so many extra permanent Sanctuary dogs taken on in the last few weeks and with the recent loss of a large donor, we are short on our food. We need 30 bags of food to make us up to 100 which gives us a two month supply of dry food. We need to raise £270.....if you can spare any pennies the kids would be so very grateful x
So I think that's all for now? Of course there is always loads more going on but fitting it all in to one blog is impossible so do please keep an eye out for updates on our groups and facebook page and subscribe to our BLOG. Supporting us does not always mean putting your hand into your pocket, simply sharing what we do with others can help us enormously and getting our website and blogs out there can be invaluable to us. So do please give us a share today and as always....thank you for being here and taking the time to support us in the work that we do to save those that have run out of options x
