As you will be aware our motto is 'One By One' but with all the rain we began to feel like an Ark so it seemed appropriate that Easter brought us two celestial beauties....Meet Hera and Angel, both came in just over a week ago both direct from the pound having run out of options, time and hope.
Hera - which means queen of heaven in Greek mythology was at risk in the pound as she could not be re-homed due to her breed and issues. She is a 3 year old Central Asian Caucasian, weighs in at around 60 kilos and is as strong as an ox. She is a Romanian import with cropped ears and docked tail. She is dog aggressive and can redirect if in the zone. Her breed are fairly rare in the UK and as a rule bred for fighting. Therefore she will remain under the wings of sanctuary to keep her safe and out of the wrong hands. Hera is a very sweet friendly girl, she is mindful of her new belongings and loves nothing more than a good groom as she is shedding like crazy at the moment. She lives next to Bruno the Caucasian puppy and they seem to be enjoying each others company. We look forward to seeing Hera make great strides once she has settled right in. This morning we asked her to smile for the camera and as you can see below....she very nearly did!
And then there is Angel - This precious girl is around 3-5 years old, also a Poundie and was also at risk. She was dumped on wasteland well known for dog abandonment and has been named in honour of Angel the Hartlepool dog who was also left on wasteland and tragically shot by officials back in March. We believe Angel is a Tushetian Nagazi (Georgian Caucasian) originally an import and again she has 'cropped' ears. This breed is all about strength and again they are bred for fighting and guarding. She needs some rehab and will also remain a permanent sanctuary girl to prevent her ending up in the wrong hands. Since arriving we have found Angel to be a very friendly girl and we have already been able to blend her into a little pack and she lives with two other dogs in a large kennel space overlooking the fields. This morning she was ready and waiting for her breakfast of cheesy scrambled eggs.
Both girls will be loved and safe here with us and benefit from our Caucasian knowledge, nothing will be demanded of them or required of them and we will teach them to just 'be' and be happy. Their reactivity is manageable in this environment and creates no problems for us. They have spent the last week or so decompressing, relaxing and sunbathing and are loving the new toys people have so kindly purchased for them from our the Amazon Wishlist and through our Sanctuary Store. Their lives here will be very different to what they have been used to...no more pressure to be something they are not...kindness, love, companionship and fun will become the new normal for them. Welcome home girls <3
Both girls have come in un-funded and their care falls to our shoulders so if you would like to help and make a donation towards their care or for any of our animals you can do so easily though our website here: DONATE
