A Hair Raising Experience! (Khan Gets A New Do)

B2ap3 Small Haircut5
Our gorgeous King Khan has been having a complete make over and has stated, in no uncertain terms that he won't be saying 'Cheese' for a while. Due to his breed his coat is both long and extremely thick and its got very matted over time and had become felted underneath. His propensity for rolling in the paddocks and dirt does not help much either but he does so enjoy it. When the coat felts it becomes literally like a thick uncomfortable layer of insulation and he was struggling with the increased temperatures and needed to feel some air on his body. He was also suffering with a lot of itchy dead skin which has now all been groomed away. It's taken 8-10 hours over the last week using scissors, horse clippers then dog clippers to get his coat short enough to sort it out right down to the skin and he'll now be nice and cool for the summer. Although Khan adores Joy, he can be extremely temperamental and this much touch, fuss and annoyance was pushing it so it's been a challenge which we had to accomplish on his terms, each session lasting only as long as he wanted it to and we've gone through a mountain of sausages to keep him entertained at the front whilst Joy was busy at the back! But everyone is intact and Khan, although a little embarrassed by his current restyle is so much happier and skipping about like a teenager since the weight was lifted.    Don't worry will grow again for the winter and we'll keep the pictures to a minimum until then....we promise.

King Khan Makes A Move (Another One!)

B2ap3 Small Kn2
Our cheeky giant boy King Khan has moved again. This is his third and last house as he finally likes this one! You may remember we built him a new one in the field last time and for a few days he was in heaven but then he just wouldn't settle so we had another re-think, gave his old (new) house to the geese and have made him as free range as possible. It's all in the view apparently (who knew?!) and we had to position it just right for took a few attempts but we have obviously succeeded at last as he's now totally settled and happy to mooch in and out during the day whilst still keeping his eye on his beloved horses. He has specific requirements on the bedding too.....he likes straw in his bed and burrows in like a massive dormouse lol. He is doing really well and has finally consented to letting Joy slowly chop away the matted bits under his chin which she's has been attempting to do since he arrived!   Like a recalcitrant teenager he is a total monkey to get him in from the field and into his area at night and Joy has had to develop a few tricks as he's bigger than her! If he sees her coming with the lead he rolls over onto his back in stubborn defiance so she leaves him upside down and after a tummy cuddle of course, walks to the gate and when he thinks she's leaving him he bounds after her. Failing that they have a game of chase and tag until he decides he's tired and ready to go to bed or if all else fails (last resort) she leaves him where he is, fills his bowl with Markies treats whilst he pretends not to watch her and lets the smell waft out to him....that one works 9 times out of 10 *winks* He is still eating us out of house and home so any donations or presents for him from our WISHLIST would be very gratefully received Donate
